Dear Dr. Ali Abdul Razzaq Muhammed Noori Aldallal, Thank you so much for your answer, but I've read this article, but do you use such modality in your real everyday practice?
Apart from nitrofurantoin, trimithoprim and fosfomycin that are used a firstline antimicrobials for uUTI, we use flavoxate and urine alkalisers for the symtpomatic patients which has a good response in more than 70% patients. Cranberry extracts are another option.
Thank you for your response. Could you please give some details about urine alkalisers, e.g. names of drugs and links to articles? Concerning cranberry products, last meta-analysis from Cochrane found no advantages for cranberry juice. But I think that there some biases might occure due to different products. As you know, recently only macrocarpone cranberry juise containing type-A PACs demonstrated efficacy. type-B PACs are not useful for therapy and prevention of the UTIs caused by E.coli.
other foods like apple juice, grape juice and green tea contain proanthocyanidins (PACs), cranberries are the only food that contain PACs with A-type linkages (as opposed to B-type linkages). The unique molecular structure explains why cranberries are the only food associated with urinary tract health.
We've just started a new randomized study on UTIs. Study purposed to compare efficiency and efficacy? advantages and disadvantages of first-line antimicrobials and herbal drugs in management of young, non-pregnant and otherwise healthy women with symptomatic LUTIs.
