According to some scholars, the allegedly high prevalence of female sexual dysfunction has to do with the fact that the standard of ‘normality’ is based on the male sexual response. Krasnow & Maglio
For men, sex involves trophy hunting, competition and temporary dominance. But after the first stages, it becomes practical, that is building up stable family units. Not for all men of course.
I recall once teaching near a shopping centre and I would frequently do my shopping there and selling kitchens within the shopping centre itself was an amazing looking married woman. I would usually nod to her and say hello. But one day I walked passed her, stopped to say hello, and I was overwhelmed by her male admirers. Quite honestly, it looked like a pack of stags or lions after one female, something from a nature programme. She looked, well, frightened. None of the men stood a chance but who knows?
As I have said, women are generally looking for a relationship rather than sex for its own sake. My question is asking about the continued definition of female sexual dysfunction in terms of intercourse. Before we were frigid and now we are dysfunction. No change there. It doesn't matter how many orgasms a woman can give herself, she is supposed to want intercourse. Yet it is an act of impregnation that women consciously avoid and I don't see how contraception can change millions of years of evolution of the female.
