Hi everyone!
I am trying out a small scale approach on culturing Pleurotus spp and I want to do it in an organic way as much as possible. It would be great if I could find an alternative to fumigation with KmNo4 & CH20.
Right now I am growing inside humidity tents which are made from plastic and is pasteurized before use. I would like to step it up a bit and start using a room for spawn run and fruiting. Right now from sub culturing till spawning no chemicals are used and would love to keep it all organic in the final product.

While the science community still awaits solution to your question, I would like to suggest that the first thing to find out in the entire process is the source or sources of microbial contamination/infection. Maybe pasteurizing longer can help or sterilizing other non-substrate materials properly would remove fumigation from the process, employing sterile spray water for wetting. Early detection of such contamination could also help while modulating the substrate ambiance to escape contamination is equally a step in the right direction. Observe all the these and you would have great yield that is organic.
take a beaker n fill it half with glyceraldehyde. leave it overnight next morning the area is fumigated with the fumes (prefer to do it on weekend)
I also do agree with Dr. Omorefosa Osemwegie that by performing longer pasteurizing can help or proper sterilizing other non-substrate materials can help in decontamination.

I agree with Dr.Omorefosa Osemwegie and will be giving utmost care to the pasteurization of substrates and care in my procedures. In small scale semi-indoor grows I am not having any contamination issues. But I am doubtful of the conditions if I increase the volume of the substrate. Thank you for sharing that with us dear Sir.
Respected Hani Sir, Yes I have heard it yields good results. Also will be a cheap source as we have lot of vegetative matter for composting. I might try to grow the mushrooms in an outdoor environment where it will turn the dry leaves to compost.
Dear Sarika Ma'am, thank you for that suggestion. If I use Glyceraldehye then will it be Organic? If so I will be more than glad to do so.

Till now, am happy with the rate of spawn run and lack of contamination issues, but still have to streamline the process.
