the best and quick answer is: separate your tissue! :) I mean that for example, you have two hippocampus, one for DNA and the other for RNA...
If this is not feasible, then go for Trizol (Tri-Reagent -SIgma). by using it, you could separate first RNA, then DNA (also protein but then it is tricky). Trizol is quite useful anf in my experience you got good yeld of RNA and DNA...here is the link from Sigma
Thanks for the input Fulvio. I was thinking about using Trizol over the Qiagen kits but my experience has only been with the RNA isolation. I may take your suggestion about separating the tissue but I'll check the yields on the dual method first. thanks again!
