Liquid nitrogen is not needed at all for DNA isolation, it is just very useful to quickly freeze samples until they can be used for extraction. It is also possible to dry leaf samples by collecting them in a small sealable plastic bag filled with a tea spoon (depending on the size of the leaf of course) of dry silica gel. Samples stay fine for several months at least, provided the bag is properly sealed.
Simply use fresh biological material for DNA extraction. Use grinder to crush your leaves and then use CTAB extraction protocol. I use it for most of my DNA extraction from various plant species. Its usually very clean.
