The Natura 2000 network is one of the largest global networks of protected areas. It was established on the basis of several annexes, which comprise species lists of community importance. Many scientists will certainly agree that these lists do not cover the most important species for conservation. There are even a couple of species listed, which are Least Concern on the IUCN Red List. Does anybody know, how these lists have been compiled? Was it simply done by single experts?
