I tried SA in Egyptian clover and high dose 100 ppm was found toxic for yield. I t also reduced shoot and root length of germinating seed. You can go through my publication field crop research 146: 25-30.

The excess of SA in the culture media, that I suggest you to carry out your characterisations about the effects of SA in your plant model in an axenic culture media (e.g. MS + Increasing concentrations of SA).

Some Arabidopsis mutants that over-produce SA are efficient against pathogens, however those plants exhibit a stunted growth associated with an over-accumulation of pigments in their leaves. Then, and most probably, the external excess of SA into your model plants, at least, might trigger an increase in the response against pathogens.

The salicylic acid in excess in plants is involved in different functions, the programmed cell death is triggered by the hypersensitive response in plants before the attack by a pathogen , such as secondary response and wide-ranging mechanism increases the concentration plant SA activating systemic acquired response ( SAR) .
