Hi, I want to submit an application for financial support, mainly about pollination biology and plant-insect-relationships, but including also biodiversity statistical analyses, as well as pollination network analyses. Does anybody have advanced experience in statistical analyses of pollinator networks and biodiversity methods and can spare some time to review my application for financial support and give me some expert advice, please? As I am new in the field of network analyses and modelling and only used quite basic statistical analyses for my PhD yet, I am in need for some expert advices concerning the statistical and network methods as well as the hypotheses I included in my application. Dear Dr. Feest, thank you for answering me, I'll have a look at your papers about diversity. And I would be pleased if you could help me with my biodiversity analyses. As the new project is a somewhat extended and advanced version of my PhD-thesis, I know what the sampled data will look like, and for the PhD-data analysis, I used EstimateS. But I think this is just one possibility out of many and I'm glad for any help :)

Two immediate points to note:
1. Everything depends on standardized sampling so I hope this is the cse
2. EstimateS if I remember correctly estimates species richness but there rare other more important indices so check them out in my papers.

Allan, I have developed a standardized observation sheet I'm using for my field observations, and I normally observe the flower visitors the same way. So I would say that my data results from standardized sampling.
I analysed species richness and diversity using species accumulation curves, generated by EstimateS. These analyses included the species richness estimator Chao2 as well as the Shannon and Simpson diversity indices. Species composition was compared by calculating the Jaccard index, the Chao-Jaccard index and the the complement of the turnover measure by Lennon. Visitation rate was analysed by the Wilcoxon matched-pairs signed-ranks test.
I will have a look at your papers, and there surely will be questions, as I made my statistical analyses some time ago and surely forgot many details...

I see that you use many of the indices that I use and there are perhaps some that you do not use:
1. Biomass; for some taxa there is a wide difference in the size of individuals (fungi for example) and the indices need to be reworked using biomass instead of population data.
2. I use value indices related to a) rarity/commonness and b) specific indices for sensitivity to nitrogen for example.
Note in some of my papers I try to show how sites can be compared and trends detected.
