The immunology tools are good but sometimes they don't work once the blood is partially digested.
The best experience I have had was with sequencing of PCR amplifications of vertebrate genes. We would just extract the total DNA from the insect abdomen and amplify and then sequence the PCR amplicons.
Also if the blood is degraded you can use forensics kits since these are used for even degraded specimens.
