In early 2012, I was invited to design and deliver a course on ERP to MBA students, that was my first opportunity to apply Game-based-approach to learning in Education. I conceptualized an " Aircraft Manufacturing Game " for engaging students in ACTIVE LEARNING mode {read chapter # 2 of the book https://www.springer.com/in/book/9781484224205 }. Later in early 2015, I was invited as guest faculty to deliver a lecture on “Project Management” to a class of engineering students, there I created a "Blindfold Game" for engaging students in ACTIVE LEARNING mode {read chapter # 4 of the book https://www.springer.com/in/book/9781484224205 }. The outcome from each occasion strengthened my confidence in effectiveness of ACTIVE LEARNING over conventional rote learning mode.
if you want to learn, you will use learning strategies actively, if you dont, you wont learn. Seems kind of pretty straightforward
To learn is to discover for oneself. To master is to do. It is that simple and that difficult. Today I have had a whole day with student centered learning. We have had discussions, reflections, cooparation, examples, testing ... together. Most days I ask my students and the end of the day/lesson one or more of these questions: What have you discovered today? What did you not understand? What would you like to explore further? Every student has to anwer in turn or say «pass». Most answer. I gives wonderful feedback and reflections over student centered learning. Michael W. Marek
I agree with Kjartan Skogly Kversøy that doing is a deeper behavior. I also enjoy doing. On my student evaluations, I hear over and over they enjoy the engaging learning activities that applied to their career and life.
Yes, We need to ensure that student should have some take away when they finish their classes. Out come based education methods ensures that.

Hello Mr. Marek, thank for posting this interesting topic. Yes, it is evident that students learn better through 'active learning'. The teacher's role is more challenging now than that in past days with teacher centered classroom teaching. (i) Content selection, (ii) purpose of the subject, and (iii) learners' assessment are the three important matters that have to be planned appropriately, besides the student centered 'active learning' teaching method. So, the teacher's role is the most significant than ever before for effective learning.

Active Learning provides the required flexibility or 'freewill' of the students to be responsible for their own learning. Preceptors only need to get them active by working on assigned tasks and activities that are related to the topic taught in class.
From their own working on the topic assigned, and of course, in their own way, students find that it is faster for them to understand rather than to read or re-read lecture notes. Active Learning should be a must-have thing in all lessons.
