I have a conference paper that was published in the conference proceedings that I am planning to expand for a journal submission.
I am already planning to change the title and expand the length considerably. I am making some changes based on the conference session feedback.
If the acknowledgements indicate the earlier shorter version, do I still need to rewrite every paragraph from the original to avoid plagiarism?

If you wish to reference both in your CV, you may need to do that to avoid self plagiarism. However, in this case, you are incorporate conference session feedback with expanded written scope to make a new submission in a peer-reviewed Journal. Even at this, you should only acknowledge one of that publication in ur CV (can't have both accepted manuscript in Journal and conference proceeding in your CV at the same time) and wouldn't need to make rewrite every paragraph from the original conference submission. I had the sane case. What I dod together with ny coauthor us to add additional research item - we compared our current research with a conparative one of a few years ago and worked more to axplaib significant diffwrenes we had found - it worked percectly and we had no oroblen with reviewers.
