Hi Esther, some respondents of my survey mentioned radiated skin (cancer treatment) as contraindication to kinesiology taping. Theoretically (not from my clinical experience) it would seem that the skin of a cancer patient that has recently been exposed to radiation, would be better off to 'breathe' and allowed to heal.
If the skin is healed, I think kinesiology taping could be attempted for a short period and tested for skin-reaction (trial and error)
I also agree with those responses in that if the skin has recently been irradiated that it should be avoided; however, post-treatment once the skin has healed a test area can be used to see what the response is like.
Our collegeous declared that spiral kinesiotaping reduced lymph edema in patients before radiation therapy during an unpublished study. But it seems completely logic not to be applied on unhealed skin.
For the strips the resistance is different from one color to another about the type also on finding less sticky tapes to the skin,
to respond to the question. (Scientific recommendations are then found in practice)
I can guarantee that it is different one person and another, the age factor and the psychological state also on the therapeutic management of the patient.
Me I find a way to make them solicit the muscle differently
And work my goal,
You will need to be creative, know that your presence with the bands with a smile will allow for quick healing even if you did not practice exercising with elastaband.
