Emad, what do you mean exactly by selfish?

I mean to not add any other researcher without any contribution in a proposed paper, but a cooperation door is fully opened toeards right and ethical mutual cooperation.

There are things that must be concealed and not called selfish, but is a guarantee of the rights of the researcher and his efforts. There is a difference between egoism and being a scientific researcher with a goal and keep your work from theft or loss of fatigue and here I think it is a legitimate right. I hope you appreciate it with all respect for the other opinion.

Regarding the addition of a person without a contribution from him to work in my personal opinion is not true although I have done so for help but science must be honest ,reliable and free of courtesies.

A real active researcher always concentrate on his work only and its publication.

Then, no/never. Just don't work with the lazy researcher again. I never work with anyone, so for me the problem doesn't arise.

Being an author of a paper SHOULD NOT in anyway be based on sympathy or friendship. It is the only genuine contributors of a paper who deserves the authorship rights. If an active and hardworking researcher worked single-handedly on a research, then s/he should be the only author of such a paper.

Granted, scholarly researchers must be prepared to work with other researchers both seasoned and armateur in the spirit of cooperation, assistance and sharing of experience.

As scholarly researchers, we want to help our colleagues mature in academic, research writing and publications. However, unless they contribute meaningfully, their names will never appear as authors on a paper. This is ethically helpful in the development of Science. Kind regards my brother.

thanks for this question. co-authoring depends on contribution of your coauthors on the work. i have coauthored may papers but many researchers always call me to help them understanding my work. suppose that i did not contribute to coauthored work and fail explaining, this can be academic shame. i know that you write a paper and you are friend call you to add him/her but he needs to contribute before adding him.

Why an active researcher will assist a lazy colleague by incorporating his/ her name as a co - author?

If anybody do not feel interest and do not want to engage him/ herself in the works of research or teaching, s/he MUST not come to the field.

Many people come in such fields just for good salary and attraction of respected profession, though they neither have any quality or any interest in the related works.

These people are acting as some tumors in these field. These tumors should be operated out as early as possible, otherwise they will go the high chairs following the curved way and spread their cancerous cells among the new generations as a rule of metastasis.

There are many professions from cleaning of garbage, selling of vegetables as a vendor, salesman of a shop etc. for different types of people.

Apart from the insightful responses of the colleagues, there are cases where the high number of publications of a 'researcher' is not the outcome of their active involvement in the relevant fields, but, the outcome of their high position and the authority they intentionally exert in the wrong way. I do not recommend such selfish persons.

The ethic of scientific research is clear. who does not contribute to research his name is will not mentioned, while encouraging research cooperation, but within a clear research framework.Do not marginalize some or put names of officials simply for their efforts to secure financing, or some facilities

Of course, the details of a particular research needs to be concealed until it is completed. This is just to avoid the plagiarism. But ""selfish" is too big a word to be used here. Researchers all over the world are publishing and making the research community to know what is happening. Research supervisors are guiding students and rolling out PhDs. What else do we want from research community?

I disagreed that such researchers are selfish. Some times, researcher include names of others because of sponsorship. Sometimes, publishing in international journals is very expensive, as such some writers look for those who can bear the cost of publication .

Unfortunately, the idea of co- authoring research article has been abused, names of people who know little or nothing about the issues under discuss are normally included . This days, it is common to see people claiming to have papers they never sat down to write. They claimed to have more than 25 research papers in less than three years in the name of "put my name....I want promotion". There are also "paper writers contractors"

Cooperation is necessary within the research team, but it is not advisable to have a place for someone who has no contribution to the completion of the research

, as well as it is necessary to move away from courtesies and personal relations at the expense of scientific effort.

In this respect and in this situation, yes, a researcher should be selfish, concentrate on his own work and publish sincerely, not including anyone who has no time to contribute towards the research.

In my opinion, an active researcher activates every lazy researcher around him, other wise he is not an active one.

Good submissions. In my own opinion, a researcher should not always claim single authorship. Always learn how to collaborate with other researchers in your field and other related fields. Be ready to mentor younger researchers to become a seasoned personalities in their chosen career.

In my own opinion not adding a person who does not make any contribution to a research work as an authorship to the publication of the research work is a sign of integrity on the part of the main author not a sign of selfish act. A person that must be added as an authorship of a publication must be able to say something about the project when call upon.

Single authorship are carried out by people in order for people around them to passive how good they are. Some situation warrant single authorship when you carried out project where people condemn, don't give support or care and there was no helping hands from any angle during the process of executing the project but at the end due to hard work, dedication and perseverance you hit a success and you see people start buying the idea. In such situation and in my own opinion single authorship is allowed for the mentioned project.

1. a researcher will deliberately introduce bias into the research work.

2. such researcher will indulge in research misconducts.

3. his works are therefore subjective and unethical.

Single authorship is not the best. It is good to collaborate with other researches who have connection with the research project. It brings the best out of the project. It can also make the project to standout. As the saying two heads are better than one. Best regards..
