I'm looking for an Australian lab that cultures any of the following species of mosquito in order to obtain a copy of them. If you know of any, could you please pass on their contact details? Thank you.
I do not know about Australia , but in my country and most countries mosquito reared within insectaries including in medical entomology unit or vector control unit.
I would encourage you to contact the medical entomologists directly. At JCU in Cairns (Scott Ritchie), QIMR in Brisbane (Greg Devine), University of Sydney - Westmead (Stephen Doggett), and others elsewhere. They will be able to point you in the right direction.
McFadden's lab in School of Botany , The University of Melbourne have the facility. Otherwise you can contact Dr Justin Boddey from WEHI, they have a BSL4 insectary.
Our entomologist Jean Bernard Duchemin here at the Australian Animal Health laboratories -CSIRO might have them.. We have a BSL3 secure insectary. I work with him. Let me know if you need his contact.
We do have mosquito colonies at the Australian Animal Health Laboratory but not the one you mentioned. We have Culex molestus and Culex annulirostris (easy ones). Culex australicus is supposed to be very hard to colonize (I failed to). No experience for the other ones. Nigel Beebe at UQ may have experience for An. annulipes?
Try Stephen Doggett or Cameron Webb at University of Sydney - Westmead Hospital for Culex australicus eggs. I am not aware of any ongoing, established colonies of those species but I will ask at QIMR and Queensland Health.
