The electrode polarization (EP) effects can still be observed in 4E/4T (electrodes/terminals) systems even when platinization and similar methods to increase the surface area of the electrodes are used.

Therefore, based on what occurs in 2E systems, the separation between the potential electrodes in 4E systems can potentially be related to the existing EP effects. I could not find existing literature which gives a proper treatment of this topic: a) by confirming or denying this statement and b) by giving a mathematical foundation for this specific theory.
