Does anyone have any clinical experience of measuring CRP in cases of CMV infection either alone or in conjunction with other pathogens and of the potential roles for CRP in CMV re-activation or disease?
Hi Sven, Have been researching the possibility that CMV may be somehow involved in a recurring series of infectious outbreaks seen in the UK roughly twice a decade since the 1950's. Last outbreak in 2012 showed an increase in deaths and hospital admissions which broadly matched the known diagnoses associated with CMV acute infection. Literature (1 paper) seems to indicate CMV does not promote a high CRP response although a large population study suggested that mortality was highest in the high CMV IgG and CRP group. Have attached latest paper. More are available at www.hcaf.biz in the Emergency Admissions web page. So basically trying to understand the relationships between CMV and CRP. Two more papers in preparation looking at increase in deaths and admissions for digestive system and vascular system following the 2012 outbreak and CMV is once again circumstantially implicated/linked.
I would like to have a look at the published paper. My experinece is especially with CMV reactivation in AIDS patients but I also have some on acute CMV or primary CMV-infection.
