Do tetraploid potatoes suffer from inbreeding depression as frequently as do the diploid potatoes during the conventional plant breeding? Please explain. Also, can you please elaborate on how tetrasomic inheritance is related to severe inbreeding depression and engenders major difficulties for the conventional potato breeding?
All the traits evaluated (pollen production, pollen viability [as determined by its stainability with acetocarmine glycerol], number of ßowers and berries plant~1, number of seeds berry~1, and tuber yield plant~1) except seed weight showed a strong inbreeding depression.
