In our radiation laboratory we routinely trap respired 14CO2 from soil, after incorporating 14C labelled substrates, using NaOH traps which can then be mixed with scintillation fluid and activity determined. However, we would also like to examine radiolabelled carbon mineralisation in anaerobic systems/samples, i.e. capture and quantify the 14CH4 produced. Are there any existing methods to do this effectively?

This has been done in many studies to understand the methanogenic and other pathways in anaerobic digestion process. Please go through the available literature and interpret if you think the method they used was effective or not.
