Hi. Unfortunately our lab doesn't have a dark room, so when we are cutting bands from our Sybr-Safe or Midori Green stained gels, we often find it difficult to see the bands present which are otherwise very bright when viewed with the camera inside the gel dock. Is there a solution to create a dark area around our UV box for making the area darker? Some sort of hood or chamber than can be retrofitted? I don't really like seeing colleagues putting a dark blue lab coat over their heads, and taking out light bulbs in the ceiling isnt an option either :D

I think you can make one from cardboard box. Just cut a hole on the bottom for camera and make an opening on the side so you can cut the gel while the gel being covered by the box.
If you want a darker condition, you can paint the inside of your cardboard box with black color.
