What is the difference between resistance and tolerance to a compound?
If there is bacteria that grow in a indirect contact of a toxic compound, when can we say if this bacteria resist or tolerance this compound?
In the case of microorganisms tolerance/resistance to toxicity.
Both tolerance and resistance actually deals with how microorganisms deal with stress/stressors in their toxic environment.
Resistance means that the microorganism has immunity to the toxicity likely due to its genetic makeup while Tolerance means that the microorganism can grow and undergo all its normal function despite the presence of the toxicity due to previous/ long term exposure.
