I need to ask about why DS value is decreasing when increasing molar ratio of reagent?
First I would like to tell that I performed 5 synthesis of cellulose with vinyl laurate. The result of DS is decreasing when I increased molar ratio of vinyl laurate. Kindly tell me why I am getting this decreasing trend and also my DS values are less than 1, least is 0.16 and highest is 0.40.

can you give more specific information? What solvent are you using and please share reaction conditions? Is the cellulose dissolved or just suspended? What type of cellulose? Otherwise, it is very difficult to give you feedback here.

First of all thank you for the reply.
I used Vinyl Laurate as reagent for 1 g of cellulose (for five different molar ratios)
First step i suspend cellulose (Alpha cellulose paper) in DMSO at room temperature for about half an hour, then dissolved in EMIMCl at 100 degree Celsius.
In modification step, i used oil bath having temperature of 110 degree Celsius. The mixture of cellulose, DMSO and EMIMCl was on continuous stirring for 3 hrs and then i left the mixture for over night in oil bath with out temperature but stirring was on.
For washing, i used Ethanol for first wash then other 2 washes with distilled water.
I did drying at 40 degree Celsius in vacuum hood but not in oven.
It is seen that DS is decreasing with increasing molar ratio, i don't know why. Kindly help me out with reasoning.
