I'm working on some project: degradation pattern of wood from mudflat
it is easy to find paper or references regarding wood degradation but it is hard to find
wood degradation from mudflat.
does anyone give some references that I can lookup? thank you.

I agree: important are cellulose content, lignin content and distribution in the wooden item, .wood species and likely region of the wood type (hardwoods); ID of original surface treatment or paints if existent; then degree of rotting of exposed wood, in contact with the mud flats vs. not in contact; scarring and pitting from benthic plants. slimes or moss, paint cracks, or loss of surface treatments near emergence level from waters at the mud flats, slime growth at near near surface depth. Since you might assume that the wooden item is a hardwood, the origin of the wood and where from would bring you to the species and also likely physical properties such as lignin content and distribution: are likely specific to-the wood item so the wood species' resistance can link to both wood species and source. Mudflats surface waters might range for fresh to saline: which determines types of mud bacteria likely to affect rot patterns for the wooden item's buried parts, salinity at the location would affect mix of benthic plants and anaerobic to mixed bacteria in the mud; which might affect degradation (erosion patterns at the wooden object's buried parts). Benthic organisms attached to cracks and/or slimes, can possible cause patterns of degradation, on the objects surface. If its about repairing the surface of the wooden object, degree of erosion extends to type of degradation and depth of wood corrosion might vary by contacts with mud flats bacteria (anaerobic and mixed) into the natural material; but also wood surface/crack organisms (slimes, benthic plant growth, in the above-soil water. Being able to interpret what most likely to caused a certain type of erosion of the wood or its surface might allow new approach to restoring the item(s) - assuming that's your goal: the mud flats impacts from water and organisms may be specific to organisms at the location (along with sunlight effects over time), at where the object was found. The same may apply to any other valuable wood objects in your mud flats, where past events had resulted in deposits into the local muds.

I imagine that insight into the wood species from forestry industries' information on the of a particular type of wood, commercial, industrial uses of reclaimed woods including form muds, seas and rivers; might allow interpretation of certain types you degradation, and also repair if that was an intent, or your goal.
