Actually culture are going to change with respect to time by the new generation. Old ideas are being replaced, old conventions are being replaced, old techniques are get replaced by new ones, so in my opinion mixed cultures are taking place.

Cultural elements are marketed and propagated from a position of power. Imperialism wipes out local culture through overt and subtle hegemonic practices. The media, advertising, music, religion among others are cultural products and channels of cultural propagation. Many cultures at the point of contact with invading cultures were not prepared to defend their ground. Also, local cultural practices, elements and products were already subjugated and negatively colored as backward, paganistic and undesirable by agents of incoming powers. Incoming foreign cultural products which were sometimes only different from the local product came in as novelty and were also empowered by being presented as instruments and products of cultural advancement, civilization etc. Little wonder then, some indigenous cultural products were wiped out speedily. Ironically though, some other cultural products were snapped up by foreign producers, modified and resold to the societies from which they first emerged as products of civilization.

People, with different culture learn to live together daily to attain certain level of peace. These people are of different culture, religion combined with different stages in their background devolopment. When they come together, they learn new things, adopt new things and abandon some of those things they used to believe just to accommodate others. During this process, there be blending, neutralization and modernization of culture. This, with time will change to some extent the global culture and the whole world may adopt the same believe. Some culture will be forgotten, some will be altered and some will be developed.

In my city, Kolkata (India), it is very rare to see any teenager speaking in any correct language. Their speaking language is a mixture of local language ( Bengali), one famous language (Hindi) and English.

We may think about people of same dimension in any aspect, but is it practically possible?

Some people are having strong physique, some are not.

The IQ level of all persons may not be enough to be educated at the highest level.

Income of different people may be different.

Culture is the product of a variety of activities that are fairly consistent, each of which seeks its own purpose, while respecting diversity and independence. So it is not the abolition of differences, also it is not a homogeneous union.

Excellent thought by Prof. Adewale! Should we abolish our traditional cultures? Certainly not! It would mean we are wiping our identities; we are burying the great wisdom of our intelligent forebears; we are not clever to learn from the past for present and future use.

Unfortunately, many local communities are gradually wiping out their traditional cultures while clothing themselves with foreign cultures only, making them look like hens or cocks with peacock feathers!

The matter is not so simple.

Take one example of Cakes. It is a common food of the cold countries. It requires no or very little preservative during preparation. The environmental temperature is such that it will not be effected during display in the shops or storage.

Now Indians are habituated to eat cakes (and other foods like cakes) all over the year. The temperature of environment stay between 30 degree to 45 degree Celsius in most part of India during 8- 9 months of every year. Humidity varies, but it is also very high in most parts.

The cakes are not preserved in refrigerator. For business, those are kept in packets as such in such temperatures. To protect these, a very good amount of preservatives are used.

What will be the health impact?

Health consciousness of common people is near zero here.

I appreciate very much the culture and history of my country (Poland). This is my passion, my hobby. But I see how many traditional customs, folk costumes, dishes (meals) disappear. When I travel around the world, I visit monuments, castles and museums. And first I read about these places. I like active rest, walking in the mountains, skiing in winter.But many of my friends do not know history well. Tthey go abroad to swim in the sea, dance, drink beer.I'm not young, I'm 47 years old.

Sorry to play the reprobate, but culture simply can't be abolished nor is a perfect union possible. As long as there are different languages, cuisines, beliefs, there are and will be different cultures. However, this doesn't mean that diffusion and assimilation will not continue (as it always has), but the day when we all eat Big Macs will not occur; just ask any Hindu. Cultures come togethere and crash and blend and adapt and develop, so we can look for traces, even of the imperialist in modern cultures. In my country of origin, there are elements of French, Spanish, Native american and US american in music, food, values, language , behavior, etc. anything else that is culture specific. Culture evolves over a period of time. Culture also- I feel - has a time orientation and over a period of time due to new things are incorporated and they become part of culture. A culture which fails to adopt and adapt over time may also loose it's hold. So personally I feel that one cannot abolish culture though it may change - for the better or worse only time determines.

We cannot stick to our respective cultures and claim mine is better than yours! Every culture needs to grow and be forward looking so that the people in that culture don't feel constricted and trapped.

Not always; there are many instances of full cultures preserved over the years.

An interesting question, but I don't totally agree with its formulation.

First, I think that we can't really talk about an abolition of culture. Being a human living in a society actually means having a certain culture deriving, first of all, from a peculiar living context.

But what is culture? I will not try here to give a definition of this important word (this debate seems to be always open in antrophology), but i think we can agree that it's a very unstable and continuosly shifting concept.

A culture is always evolving, and it can change between generations, and also within a single generation.

Saying that this globalized world is going to abolish or unite cultures is reductive, a generalization in my opinion. Why should we decide between "choice of a culture instead of another" or "forced synthesis of cultures"?

In this huge construction that this our human world is, i see a cohabitation that leads to different answers in different cases.

History teaches us that cultures always cohabited, fought, and sometimes perished, mixed, won or simply coexisted. That's the nature of the culture itself: often we are more aware of our culture if we have to face with different ones.

My impression is that nowadays this process is more noticeable, and maybe stronger, because of the kind of society in which we live. Of course the cultural contact is more direct compared to the past if today i can eat sushi in Italy and lasagna in USA, if we all can chat and share opinions on this site etc. However, cultural traits still remain, cultural differencies still exist, cultures are still evolving, as always, but maybe with a certain convergence that can be noticed in some cultural aspects that are often called "western world" (or "western civilization" et similia).

I mean, yes, today there are some global cultural phenomena that often lead societies and generations from all over the world to conform in certain aspects, but cultural identity is still alive and strong. There is a kind of "globalized culture" that is having a more or less strong impact on our lives, but it always cohabits with a proportionately more or less strong "indigenous substratum".

I don't know if the future will see a world without cultural differencies, but i think it will be hard to have a whole living race like ours to follow a single culture: humans can be very different, and very different are the societies they create.
