In January 2021 Croatian Bureau of Statistics (CBS) published web page titled as 'Effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on on socioeconomic indicators' (https://www.dzs.hr/Eng/Covid-19/population-deaths.html). It is however sort of precedent, because the objective (and competence) of the CBS are production (collecting) and dissemination of statistical data, but not interpretation of statistical data.
CBS states: "Observing the period from March, when the COVID-19 epidemic was officially declared in the Republic of Croatia, the number of deaths increased by 11.5% in the period from March 2020 to January 2021 compared to the five-year average for the same period, that is, there were 5 551 more deaths." Certain quote indicates that increase of deaths in 2020 was equally distributed during the period of declared pandemic, but based on CBS data, Table 7.1.3 (https://www.dzs.hr/Hrv_Eng/Pokazatelji/MSI%20STANOVNISTVO.xlsx) increase started slightly in November 2020, followed by significant increase in December. However, number of deaths in first 10 months of 2020 is less than average, so, it appears that increase of deaths may be just partially correlated with declared pandemic.
