I am a student working on a long essay with my topic as "Globalization; an additional problem or a solution to the problems of the global South countries". In this paper, I seek to discuss the various dimensions of Globalization, as well as it's laws to conclude on whether it serves as a solution or an additional problem to the several problems of Global South countries. So my best and simplest answer is: Globalization, with all its pluses and minuses, has arguably enabled the most rapid worldwide development in human history; the technology 'revolution' has helped this all the more, especially from the mid-to-late 1990s onward. Thus areas which had been lagging other parts of the world, and hadn't seen marked improvements in 'development', in the postwar era - - as in 'the Global South' - - have in fact become better off.
Perhaps the best, if indirect, evidence for this growth and development comes from a series of reports issued by World Bank - - not my favorite organization - - in recent years; the upshot: “Globally, extreme poverty has rapidly declined. New poverty estimates by the World Bank suggest that the number of extremely poor people — those who live on $1.90 a day or less — has fallen from 1.9 billion in 1990 to about 736 million in 2015”, and then, “The global extreme poverty rate fell to 9.2 percent in 2017, from 10.1 percent in 2015. That is equivalent to 689 million people living on less than $1.90 a day” (see: https://blogs.worldbank.org/opendata/number-extremely-poor-people-continues-rise-sub-saharan-africa, and https://blogs.worldbank.org/opendata/progress-toward-ending-poverty-has-slowed). So despite the relatively localized counter-trend, and also the recent pandemic-related increase in poverty - - both of which very clearly indicate that much development still remains to be accomplished - - we should let that sink in: from 1990 to 2017, the number of people living in extreme poverty has dropped from 1.9 billion to 689 million - - by my math, that's almost a 64% decrease in extreme poverty in under 30 years.
And thus the decrease in extreme poverty - - wherever it exists - - functions inversely to development in the same areas.
All of this is great news, I think, again despite those 'minuses' of the globalization process.
Hey, having worked on an essay in the same domain, I would recommend checking out Thomas Piketty's Capital in the 21st century as well as some of the ideas put forth by Dani Rodrik such as hyperglobalisation and his trilemma.
Other than this, I wouldn't want to influence your personal direction but I would strongly advise taking a long look backwards into the history of globalisation as there is no straightforward answer to your question.
