I think this depends on the area of your research and also on your personal publication strategy. Generally, useful thing is to look where the papers you consider seminal or authoritative or which are frequently cited in your area are published, and/or in which journals the most prolific experts in your field publish their work.
Thanks for your feedback. I use Web Qualis a lot, which is a Brazilian platform. I would like to know new ways to choose other journals for publication and to cite international sources.
You can start with databases which rank the journals according to selected quantitative criteria (not particularly helpful for e.g. humanitites or at least some areas in humanities), probably one of the best known being SJR (Scientific Journals Ranking); also have a look at Web of Science and SCOPUS.
There are multiple factors that may influence on selecting an appropriate journal outlet. Not only numerical factors like IF, citations, ranks, etc. influence on selection, but also factors like readership, type of publication, international collaboration, editorial board, etc. may influence the author's selection criteria.
