With the COVID-19 pandemic, the face mask is having its hour in the spotlight. Designers are making fashion masks; painters are creating one-of-a-kind mask masterpieces; companies are ‘masking’ their logos.
I cannot see anything wrong with design masks as a fashion statement, or a corporate policy that have the workers in a plant or store wear masks with the company logo. The sooner the better.
We have to find a way to live as normal as possible until treatments, vaccines and/or any cure is found and that will take 2, 3 or 10 years - it's anyone's guess and depend on that this bug do not mutate too much and often (which it probably will anyway).
Mask wearing is a practical joke... as virus can't be prevented by the mesh size of the mask. Business houses always seek opportunity.. hence their inclination towards logo is obvious
Hi, The fact is we have to protect ourselves against the pandemic by all possible means. This include dietary supplements, sanitizers, and good quality masks of right pore-size.
Even a mask that do not comply by the PPE3 standard do help in several ways.
It do prevent potentially dangerous droplets from landing on lips and nose, this especially for persons who do send such drops when talking but most specifically when sneezing or coughing.

So I have to correct some answers given above, and add that a mask also prevent the wearer from touching the lips and mouth with the hands.
Traditional knowledge tell us that masks are useful in the age of an pandemic, 650 years ago masks was used to prevent the wearer against 'miasma' - as they did not understand or even know of viruses. But we should not underestimate the ability of people back then to see and make deductions from the cause and effect relationship. There were people as smart back then as we can find today.
So I will continue to use the mask I got though it only comply with PM2.5 standards, even if it might only stop droplets from my own sneezes from reaching anyone else and might cause them unease. (I am an allergic.)
To get full protection against SARS2 / Covid we would need to dress ourselves in plastic and wear a gasmask - I don't think anyone would seriously suggest that.
So for the time being lets do our best, and show people around us that we do intend to live life as normal as realistically possible by at least do the courtesy of wearing a mask in public places.
Thank you! I checked and noted you're a M.D as well as a researcher so I'm not surprised you agree on the importance of using a mask.
Wheras I am not, but a mask is used in my work also when I handle and test sick animals, while the mask described above is for personal use outside work hours.
When the film The Mask was released on July 29, 1994, by New Line Cinema, it became a critical and commercial super-hit. The film grossed over US$351 million on a US$23 million budget, making it the second most profitable film based on a comic up unto that point, behind Superman (1978). The Mask cemented Carrey's reputation as a dominant actor of the 1990s, and it established Cameron Diaz as a leading lady – it was her debut film. Carrey was nominated for a Golden Globe for his role, and the film was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects but lost to Forrest Gump. Nobody thought 30 years back that The Mask would become such an important new accouterment in the world of today.
No, given the country we are living in the usage of 'clean mask' needs more attention. As it's the first step to stop harmful around microbes around as. Coming to designer mask it's insensitive of them to put their label name on it.
Many people ask for advice on how to make a mask. At the beginning of the pandemic, customers stormed fabric stores desperately looking for a way to construct a cover since they became scarce quickly. As a sewer and avid crafter for years, my expertise helped these frantic customers experiment with different fabrics and styles. Thankfully, not only does experience count in making a mask but logic and science.
Logic and science because the research was necessary for what works. The covers had to be comparable to N95 and based on the pattern and layers. Improvisation took place when elastic depleted by using stretch fabric. Also, sewing loops instead worked after running out of elastic. Which also luckily plays a role in designing a cover. And after giving so much creating advice, it was time to redesign my own. I decided to make it look like a veil like the ones that belly dancers wear. However, a mask is a mask, and no matter the style, the bedazzling or fabric is still a mask and is not going to look pretty. Ironically, I have gotten compliments by people that are starting to appreciate staying bug-free.
Sometimes customers got creative. Some ideas were using coffee filters, paper towels, and bra cups. One co-worker sends a text picture of her wearing the design, and to be polite; no replied prevailed. Other customers sew embroideries with their names or sarcastic phrases in the front and side of the mask. But the one that gets the prize is the bridal one that matches the dress.
Now businesses are stamping their logos and not only becomes face protection but a money maker. Sewers are selling face masks online, charities are donating them, and of course, grandmas play a significant role in dispersing them. Not to forget, sports teams will sell their brand in stadiums and retail businesses. But when is this fashion ending? The face cover is a style that most people wish to go out of style quickly. Everyone needs to feel fresh air again to ease worries about the pandemic. Hopefully, this is a learning experience in which logic and science will win.
When anything in life, becomes a necessity, better take it gracefully. Mask is going to last for next couple of months as part of our dressing. So making it aesthetically pleasing and comfortable, would make it compatible for an identity.
Properly worn face-masks with hand hygiene not only protect the person wearing it from aerosol induced infections, but also prevent the patient from spreading infection to others.
