The growth is affected by interfacial tension and temperature conditions and follows from spherical to non-spherical growth pathway.
Could you specify your question? What is the issue you want to understand? As you state your question now, it is not clear what your would like to know.
Perhaps, you are asking about nucleation ON a single crystal surface ?
One can look at these 2D and 3D nucleation from energetics point of view. Surface and interface energies are involved in nucleation, minimization of total energy of the nuclei dictates the type of nucleation. Practically there are growth parameters such as temperature, pressure etc, and stresses due to epitaxy are also involved.

I grow one organic single at the range of few microns. Its like a thin sheet (like paper). By observation on the crystal surface by AFM and optical Microscope its surface is highly smooth and there is no growth patterns are observed. i am very confused that the growth happened due to two dimensional or three dimensional nucleation.

By my knowledge i thought that the crystal form by two dimensional nucleation initiated by screw dislocation and its surface have some hilliocks (islands).

Yes please explain the nucleation on organic single.
Growth rate of your crystal may be very slow in ceratin direction and it is very fast in some other direction. This might be one reason of getting paper like crystal.You may change the growth parameters like supersaturation level,pH of solution, add some additive to change the interfacial energy between crystal and solution for getting bulk crystal.One more thing you can do you can add some solute time to time to the solution during growth to maintain the superasaturation level just in the vicinity of already grown crystal.
trying to explain to my students the phase change in materials, we have made a video showing a simulation of the movements of 128 NaCl molecules interacting with an atractive Coulomb forcé and a short range exponential repulsive forcé. Using molecular dynamics, from the forces we calculated the acceleratiosn, then the velocities and the change in poositions and start again. we start witha very separated configuration (plasma) and relax the system to obtain a constant kinetic energy (termal equilibrium). the equilibrium takes abot 500 iterations and we used 5000 to calculate the corresponding temperatura. Then we multiply the velocity matrix by 0.9 cooling the system. So we go from plasma to solid state. We calculate in 3 and 2 dimensions, but the 2 dimensios shows more. The cluster is too small to shows some details, but provide an interesting explanation for the phase changes. Shows naicely the temperatura dependence.
