Which is more compatible software for engineering application specifically for solar systems applications. Comsol or fluent in terms of Computational time, Solar modelling and other stuff please
Comsol and fluent can be used to simulate mediums which radiation is dominant. I think it's up to you to decide to utilize which one according to your experience with them.
I prefer using the module of fluent for radiation calculations.
It depends on what exactly you want to model. If you have different physics to couple, COMSOL can be useful; although you can do that in FLUENT too. But if your simulation is heavily fluid dynamics, go for FLUENT. Keep in mind that their methods are different. FLUENT is finite volume while COMSOL is finite element.
Both software are good for modeling engineering applications. ANSYS fluent is mostly useful for volumetric simulations. COMSOL can also do the same simulations but with different methodologies.
I really thank you, I have found that both of them good but the issue with Comsol is the Computation time is really high if we compare with Fluent. Since Fluent is based on Finite Volume and Comsol Finite Element.
There are many parameters in Comsol that you can adjust regarding your problem to reduce the computational time. For instance, you can select between the Direct or iterative solvers or coupled or segregated algorithms. Also the default mesh and solvers might not be optimal. So you need to modify them to get your solution faster. The difference in the calculation time is NOT only because one uses the FE method and the other uses the FV. The details are important.
You may need some finite element background to chose the best option for you. However, you can find lots of information in the Comsol website.
For Fluent, if you want to change any parameter, I strongly recommend to look into the Fluent Theory Guide and the Fluent User Guide.
Moustafa Al-Damook In my opinion, you may model the kinetic and behavior of the fluid flow using FLUENT through the user-defined functions. Multiphase problem can be solved by volume of fluid (VOF) model, FLUENT has this function. However, if you want to solve mass balances for more than 50 species, there is a limit for FLUENT. May be you have to make sure what kind of model that need for you simulation, and then compare both simulation packages. I think the attachment and the link may useful for you.
If you are a fan of evidence and scientific conviction and stay away from imitating others, and you want to know the accuracy of the results between both programs, I present to you just two articles to judge for yourself about both of softwares results quality.
Recently, the Ansys fluent 2021 is a top in technological design and options.
I think according to the data you have, you can decide what is the closest and most useful thing to do, like in electrical eng. i work on two software pscad and etab I can specify which software to use according to the nature of the situation.
