Hi All,
I'm conducting some work on a human endogenous virus and currently use blood as a source of DNA. I've had some interesting findings and I want to confirm that these are present in the germ-line and not just attributed to changes occurring the blood. My thought was to use DNA from hair follicles.
My question is, what is the best way to collect hair for DNA extraction? What is the best source (ie head, eyebrows etc)? What have people found is the best way to collect hair to ensure the best chance of getting the follicle? How much hair is needed, say for a few hundred ng (is that too much DNA to expect?)?
Any tips people have for using hair for genetic studies would be much appreciated!
Thanks,
Adam
