In general, hyperhydricity indicates that the growth conditions are not suitable for explant.
Some symptoms are swelling of the tissue, increased water content, lower chlorophyll content, etc. The symptoms varies with species.
It might occur due to higher salt concentration, what types of explant you used, high humidity, low light intensity, types of gelling agent and its concentration, microelements and hormonal imbalance, etc.
You can control it by adjusting relative humidity in the vessel, using a higher concentration of the gelling agent, lowering the nitrate and ammonium concentration in the media, adjusting pH to 5.8, proper monitoring the atmosphere of the culture vessel, etc.
