I want to record location of frozen samples from experiments, and easily retrieve the information/sample. Would also use software for locating and tracking frozen cell stocks and plasmid stocks.
A simple spreadsheet (Excel, LibreOffice Calc...) can do that, but requires discipline when checking samples in or out. My experience with check-out of poisonous or radioactive compounds indicates that this is often a problem even with paper sheets. If people have to go to the computer, take off their gloves, boot the machine and open the file, the problem may become even larger.
I visited a lab where they used Freezerworks software and it worked very well, you could print labels for the tubes with barcodes, etc., but I think its paid. (https://freezerworks.com/)
I have developed a software for sample storage management and other laboratory apps that were designed for internal use and I am staring to open it for external users at very accessible prices. You can check them at: https://www.locatorapps.com/
