I have come across to alternative methods to analyse mouse brain cholesterol content, one is staining with filipin and the other uses the Amplex® Red Cholesterol Assay Kit by Life Technologies. The kit is designed to measure serum cholesterol levels, but some papers mention its use for brain homogenates. However, they don't specify how the brain tissue was processed (Does it require extraction? What buffer was used for homogenisation? etc.) Does anyone have protocols that work well? Many thanks in advance!
