Can you distinguish the nitrided zone??

Hello. I applied ion nitriding to titanium

And, the specimen was etched in kroll's etchant

By using SEM, I can see the nitriding zone.

But, it is difficult to distinguish the TiN, Ti2N, nitrogen diffusion area.

If u are expert of material science, please help me how to distiguish the nitriding area.

Hi Ho Seong He!

Try to make an oblique section and determine boundary under an electron microscope with an electronic energy analyzer. Second option on same oblique section, measure microhardness. Microhardness of Ti2N and TiN are different.

I'm just afraid that at low concentrations of N, you can not notice the differences.
