I have designed an RC beam using CDP (Concrete Damage Plasticity) for concrete and elastic properties for steel, as per attached paper.
1. I am getting the tension damage at the bottom of the beam and at the middle as expected if simply supported beam, however, I am getting the compression damage parameters also maximum at that place. How can it be possible that the same place is having both compression and tension damage?
2. Also my problem is that I am getting converged for 8kN load but failing to do so ("too many attempts for this increment erorr while going beyond 10 kN)
3. I am not finding the place to enter the grade of steel (yield stress) ,ie,415 N/mm2
In the property module they are asking only the E,nu values.

regarding compression and tension damage model ....... If you are sure about your values for the model .... then may you have one of two things
may that point is exactly under your load so you have both at the same location .... not exactly same location but very close
or may you have tension in one direction and compression in another direction
I advise you to plot the plastic strain ..... It will give you exact meaning about your direction of cracks or concrete crushing
regarding the yield stress ....... no need to do it ..... just feed the elastic modulus in abaqus and then stress vs inelastic strain ..... so that the behavior will stay linear up to reaching the inelastic strain ..... This point for sure correspond to the yielding stress

if we have concentrated load then we should have compression at the top right for me the compression damage is shown at the bottom, tension damage is also at the bottom
In order to define the yield stress, you should apply it in material properties. You should add plastic as well as elastic in material properties section.
