I want to analyse wastewater for detection of pollutants through GC-MS technique but I have n-Pentane (Puriss AR) in place of n-Pentane (HPLC) grade for GC-MS analysis. Can we use n-Pentane (Puriss AR) in place of n-Pentane (HPLC) grade for GC-MS analysis?

n-Pentane is non-polar hydrocarbon, this solvent is suitable to extract non polar organic compound (hexane is the best for non polar compound. If you have dichloromethane it is good to extracht poler compound. let me know what are the compound you are going to analyze. I will help you.

dichloromethane is the best (refer the attachment)
recovery may poor in n-Pentane but try to do a recovery study using n-Pentane. If your recovery withing 80 -120% you can use this solvent for the extraction. But I an not sure.
