Let us assume that we have a liquid such water. It is flowing inside a tube and/or tank with a constant rate. How can we determine the arrival time for the liquid front (head) inside the tube at certain position?
We should use a neutron source such as Pu-Be , thermal neutron detectors ( He-3) and some electronics.

x-rays should also do that job also. They can be 'switched' ON and OFF via an x-ray tube and there is no radioactice or poisonous waste
There are x-ray systems available of some 100kV. These x-rays are able to pass the walls of tanks and pipes. In addition high energy x-rays are easily backscattered (Compton scatter) from any material.

I think neutrons are more sensitive than X-ray or gamma-rays.
I am asking that question since I did not found a method relying on neutrons for determining levels or moving fronts of liquid flowing in tanks and/or tubes. I have some results which may help . I'm keen to know if there are similar results in literature - according to my knowledge such results do not exist
