Extremophilic microbes are those which can withstand harsh environments due to some modifications in their membranes, nucleic acids and proteins that provide them resistance against extreme conditions for survival. Can we modify mesophilic microbes into extremophilic by using molecular techniques? If yes, How?

In principle it may be possible. However, in many cases it would require the transfer of many genes. Even than, this would most likely result in an organism that is more or less tolerant to extreme conditions rather than extremophilic.
