I think that almost any source of rich, qualitative data can be studied through thematic analysis. What kinds of data do you have available?

It's certainly possible, though depending on the nature of the data you'll need to think carefully about what you don't know. For example, if you're using transcripts from interviews from someone else's project, you'll need to reflect on how the original researcher(s)' research questions and aims affected the available data, and consider what you might be missing from not having been involved in those interviews (e.g. you may not have access to additional information based on researcher memos, participants' nonverbal cues, etc.). If you are analysing documents, the process might be slightly more straightforward.
