We can apply the surface film condition along the thickness plane in the 3D plate. But if we make it as 2D plate we wont be apply the same along the thickness plane(XY plane).
Can we apply the surface film condition over a 2D face in Abaqus?. Is there any way by creating skin elements or any other method?
Yes. Surface and Node sets are required to be defined. The surface highlighted is not the correct location to define surface film condition. You must understand the concept of 2D and 3D.

The highlighted area is face ,not the surface.I can apply the film condition over the edges ,which act as surface in the 2D.But my query is whether I can apply it over the highlighted region?.
i.e.if we extrude this 2D plate to 3D rectangular plate,we can apply the convection and radiation along the thickness/XY plane.So of we want to replicate the boundary conditions of 3D we can't apply over the 2D XY plane.
That's what I'm trying to tell you. If you are applying the surface film condition at the highlighted region then it is illogical. It is 2D plan not 3D space.
