In recent days the happenings around countries that have scaled through the stages COVID-19 spread as experiencing an upsurge in cases. Already, the world is yet to recover from the first wave as economies are down, jobs are lost, productions are on the low etc. Can we afford the second waveWhat be done to prevent this?

Definitely the second wave may come but may not make much impact as the first one. Most countries are in the community transmission stage with herd immunity being gradually acquired. Except if there is another trait of the virus which is more virulent than the current one.
Not again, another wave of COVID-19 will be apocalyptic for the hapless world.
In the absence of effective vaccines or treatments, if there is a second wave of the virus, its evolution will depend only on individual behaviors in maintaining social distancing, wearing appropriate masks, washing hands often and in the knowledge that we have of viral behaviors . By these means we contained the first viral wave. What will be difficult to contain will be the socio-economic storm.
It would be a difficult situation as still we do not have a proper vaccine for it.

Not only second, even third or waves of spread of COVID-19 are occurring in certain countries like Brazil, South Africa, and India are occurring due to new variants of SARS-CoV-2, the virus causing this disease. Unless the COVID-19 vaccines are effective against new variants and at least 70% people of a county get immunity (producing herd immunity), these waves after waves may be expected in the future.
With passage o time, A surge in the COVID-19 coverage the population of will progressively reduce the extent of these waves.
