Hello there,
I am working on a rotary type IC engine having diesel injector. The simulation is unsteady with the flow and with DPM for diesel spray. I just checked mixing of Air and Fuel by using Species model. The next step is to check for the combustion of diesel fuel.
Can anybody suggest me, if I can model a combustion with species model or do I need to go for non premixed combustion model ?

In principle it should be possible to use Fluent's species transport models to simulate combustion in a diesel engine. The challenge is to find a reaction mechanism which is small enough to be manageable but still comprehensive enough to capture the characteristics of diesel combustion that are important to you. Of course, how large a mechanism can be and still be manageable is largely dependent on the hardware and computational time that you have available and how much simplification you are willing to allow.

Thank you Mr. Leicher. I get the paper you sent me, which is really helpful. I have also noticed that it is bit difficult to find a reaction mechanism which is small and handy to manage. I think the paper you sent me, will be helpful to get some basic idea about that.

I am also working on spray combustion by using species transport model. I did the setting, injection (heptane), imported chemical kinetics (reduced chemical kinetics (29 species and 52 reactions). But unfortunately there is no combustion, just spraying fuel into hot pressurized environment (constant volume chamber). I am wondering if you have an idea about the problem why the spray does not ignite.
Any help is appreciated in advance.
Is there an ignition source in your system? Try patching in a flue gas solution to get combustion started.

Check out the initialization tab in Fluent. There you have the option the generate an initial solution for all transport variables, and there is another tab (titled "Patch", I believe) where you can choose to initialize only certain transport variables. If you have different domains in your computational domain, you can also patch certain variables only in certain domains.
