Thank you! last time when I worked with S.aureus, I had switched on the air flow in laminar air flow. its a horizontal flow type. I did not wear mask either. I've been told that I should not have done that.. it directly got into my breathing channel perhaps. I suffered for more than a week. That's why I'm scared. I remember disinfecting my hands and glass wares too.. Thanks again. Is there anything else I should bear in mind?
Wearing latex gloves during routine work will help, but gloving does not completely prevent contamination. Hand washing is necessary before and after glove removal because of the potential for contamination from glove leaks or contamination during glove removal. Hand washing with plain or disinfectant soap and water, or diluted Ditol® solution or rubbing with alcohol will help. The subungual area of the fingers harbor high concentrations of bacteria. The number of bacterial and fungal microorganisms 'increases with increasing nail length so that keep natural nail length and use a nail cleaner to clean underneath fingernails. Remove jewelry before working. You can wear a mask also. Never pipette by mouth, you can use pipette bulbs or pipetting devices for the aspiration and dispensing of liquid cultures. Never eat or drink in the lab, nor store food in areas where microorganisms are stored. Cover any cuts on your hands with a bandage. Autoclave or disinfect all waste material. Cover any spills or broken culture tubes with a 70% ethanol or 10% bleach solution; then cover with paper towels. After allowing the spill to sit with the disinfectant for a short time, carefully clean up and place the materials in a biohazard autoclave bag to be autoclaved. Wash the area again with disinfectant. Never pick up glass fragments with your fingers or stick your fingers into the culture itself; instead, use a brush and dustpan.
