The units of Abaqus are specified by you. You need to be coherent. If you are working in mm and N, your Young's modulus needs to be in N/mm, etc

You can follow the procedure shown in the video only if you create, before submitting the job, the relative outputs. Otherwise it is easier to click on the blue info (i) button, select probe values and the quantity you want and that chose with the mouse pointer the location in which you want to know the value. 

Regarding the units, it depends on how you have defined the properties and the dimensions: for example if you define the dimensions in mm, and the forces in N, accordingly the stresses will appear in N/mm^2 [MPa]. If you use N and m, than in Pa etc.. Also the elastic Module should be defined accordingly (dimensions in mm, forces in N than Elastic module in MPa etc.).

i practice in a way that i always remain stick to SI systems of units. in this method unit conversion is readily available. For example if you want to draw a line of 5mm then you always write 5E-3.

Using the SI units without scaling can give problems with the floating point if you have to work with extremely small quantity like microns...

Diogo,how do you specify or define units for ur Young Modulus?Because i cant find any of such instructions on the dialogue box that appears when I click on Material option.I can see the box for Young Modulus and can only define the scale but not the units.

Kamal,I normally  type in dimension of the line i want to draw(with unknown unit) but how do u specify the units?

as mr Geraldes said in his first comment you need to coherent thats why i suggest you just stick with SI units.

Unit are in your mind, in abaqus they are just numbers.

for example if you are in SI unit and you have to give a dimension of 100 mm, then you will remain consistent with 100E-3=0.1m viz a viz SI units for youngs modulus is pascal but on data sheets they are in mega pascal (MPa) or giga pasca (GPa) so you will enter it as 10E6 and 10E9 respectively.

It is very easy. You should start for example by defining the geometry: you choose to use mm (if your dimension is 0.01m, type 10 and keep in mind you are using mm). Then, when you define the other quantities you should be coherent. If you define the elastic module (for example you have 0.2E9 Pa) and in Abaqus you tipe 200, this means you are adopting GPa. Then the forces that are defined in N=[Pa*m] should be used in GPa*mm according to your previous choices.

here am I again with my trouble.Please I have tried to determine the units to use for drawing parts on the drawing space.But I cant understand exactly how to do that.

Please does anyone know the units of each of the  cells on the drawing space?If I can get that I would be able to make the conversions to my desired units.

For example,If the cells are in millimeters ,Then I can do my conversions to micrometers.

And also,what is the meaning of this error message -Too many attempts made for this increment?

Is your problem solved? Simple problem, same problem: want to model a sphere in microns (radius 10 micron, and stress 400 Pascals, Pressure on top surface 800 Pascals) . I took approx size as 20 and drew sphere with 20 units as radius. Is this correct? If yes, what will be the values of stress and pressure respectively to be inputted.  Thanks!!

First of all,Approx Size is the size of the drawing space and not related to the dimension of the drawing.

Since abaqus does not have provision for selecting units,i usually consider one cell in the drawing space as 5 by 5 mm so if I want to work with microns,I convert mm to micrometer.So I think you can do same too,just choose ur unit as mm and input a figure that is a convert of mm to micrometer. Same as stress and pressure.

The units of Abaqus are specified by you and this is a nice approach allowing a lot of flexibility. Abaqus assumes you use consistent units. It does not matter which units you use, as they match with each other.
