Currently being treated with medication to control tics but previously an athelete (international level) drop attacks and attacks of hemiparesis also feelings of self harm onset over 24hrs.
thanks evan will put that to neurologist hes currently in the process of being changed to a different medication and being sent to great ormond st for we hope PET scan. I'm on therapy side
entire onset was within 24hrs . Current reccomendations are for CBT to cope with tics but the team that would deliver this here have felt that it would not be beneficial. Parents have involved a support group who are assiting him in coping.
An interesting question, Karen. I have long supposed from my work with people with Tourette's that we are looking at inflammation of the cortex, whether it is primary or secondary. Other issues could be heavy metal toxicity and other environmental/food additive exposure--artificial dyes, preservatives, artificial sweeteners, etc. Add PTS from abuse, violence (yes, allowing children to watch violence on TV and movies can be abuse in some cases, but the real life kind is king of abuse!). As well, when the abuse factor is not present, accidental traumatic injury can add serve as the trigger.
