Qiagen has an miRNEasy kit, as a modification to their RNeasy kits (which I believe is Trizol based).  The RNeasy kit will not capture RNAs smaller than 200 nucleotide in their columns.  The miRNeasy kit corrects for this and allows for miRNA isolation.  For a non-column based purification using ethanol precipitation, I do not think any modifications need to be made.

We use miRvana kit for great results in terms of isolation of small RNAs.

Also, quantification can also be done by nanodrop.

Also of concern, in terms of the yield, as per me, is the source materila. What are you working with, please?

In addition to the above suggestions few tips are useful if you want to isolate small RNA fraction using TRIZOL or TRI-reagent

1) Avoid 70% alcohol wash ....it may lead to  loss of small RNA fraction

2) selectively precipitate large RNAs (including rRNAs) form the total RNA prep

3) Use carrier molecule (glycogen etc.) for efficient precipitation of small RNA molecules.
