I have transformer steel samples to evaluate but our texture machine is out of order. for a quick check can I don 2 theta scans for any information about the textured nature of the sample? If yes what would be the interpretation of the scans?
usually releative peak intensity by xrd against a reference will be helpful to detect texture influence or difference between samples. nevertheless this can not substitute pole figure measurement/texture measurement. it generates more or less a qualitative result and is applicable if you have strong texture differences.
if you are talking about electrical steel as your sample type, pls take into cosideration that this material has large grain size which lead to pure peak statistics and this also influences the quality of releative peak intensity methodology. so it is common to use sample rotation and oszillation to improve number of grains inyour analysis area.
