its because KEGG relate the fuction p/e of a protein not only in the pathway you are searching but in all pathways incuding diseases etc etc--- in brief are pathways of the collection of molecular interactions and reactions

My understanding is that the names are just names and the letters may not always directly relate to the signalling pathway. The key is to see what several pathways involved in a disease have in common and target that.
