We work on natural products to isolate some compounds that can be used as drugs.
Does it also happen that while this type of research, new targets to treat that particular disease are discovered?
If yes, can someone please share some papers?

Yes. This may happen. The success rate might be higher if your research is correlated with extensive literature review and folk use of selected natural product and you adopt precise analytical and biological techniques. As far as I concern , Isolation of bioactive compounds from natural products is an excellent step for drug discovery. A number of drugs available in market has been isolated directly or indirectly from natural products. For example , Digoxin from plant digitalis sp , atropine from Atropa belladona, antimalarial drugs quinine from cinchona , anticancer drugs vincristine and vinblastine from Catharanthus roseus, Morphine and codeine from Papaver somniferum , antibiotics eg penicillin from penicillium notatum, Silymarin, sennosides , fish oils , ivy leaf extracts , stevia sweetner for diabetic patients etc . Yes, it's very possible. In fact natural products are one of the major sources for drugs used to manage or treat many diseases. Example Artemisinin is a natural product obtained from Artemisia annua that has been used extensively to treat Malaria (Check WHO recommendations in Malaria treatments). Vincristine and Vinblastine are still used as chemotherapeutic agents. Do you know that bioactive components from Ficus platyphylla (Available in Africa) have been used to treat epilepsy? Check some works by Chindo et al to understand more about use of herbs to treat diseases.

Work has been carried out on this type of research in order to minimize the undesirable effects and prolong the therapeutic effect of an anti-inflammatory drug and for this have used a biodegradable polymer.
