Actually, I'm involved in a research for my thesis focused on boundary crossing processes between online communities. Do you think SNA could be used to this purpose? Do you know researches about these topics?

generally speaking I think yes, you might use SNA for this purpose - you just have to identify subsets (cliques, k-plexes, etc.) between which you want to trace boundary crossings. Which kind of network subset you chose depends also on your theoretical interest as well as on the data available. You'll find a good overview in Wasserman and Faust (1994) "Social Network Analysis - Methods and Applications".

Basically yes I believe. Although you might want to first clarify the relational data that you will run with SNA. Aside from the book mentioned in the previous comment; other books are also useful, e.g., social network analysis (Prell, 2012) or the Sage handbook of SNA.
